Back to School….

BlackboardLast week I returned to my old school, Kirkcaldy High, for the first time since leaving as a sixth year pupil back in 1991. My colleague Laura and I had been invited by Audrey Diamond, Kirkcaldy High’s Principal Teacher of Guidance to take part in their 5th year student’s induction day. It was a fantastic event aimed at inspiring the 15 and 16 year olds to make the most of their year ahead by focussing on a number of key themes including enterprise, employability and creating opportunities for their own success and development. Job Interview in ProgressI was recently involved in an interview training session with Young Enterprise Lothian, a programme which encourages students aged 16 to 18 to set up and run their own company over the course of one academic year.

At the moment the students are busy preparing, not only for their prelims but for their end of year company interviews. For many participants this is the first interview they have taken part in and as anyone who has been interviewed knows, they can be a nerve-racking experience, especially if you’re not sure what to expect.
